Crypto Glossary: Every Term in Plain English
Every crypto word you'll see on Craic Hub, in plain English.
- Blockchain
- A shared public record of who owns what, kept by many computers so nobody can secretly change it.
- Bonding curve
- How pump.fun launches tokens: the price rises as people buy. Tokens "graduate" to a normal pool later.
- Bridge
- A tool that moves your crypto from one blockchain to another.
- Coin
- A blockchain's own currency, like SOL or ETH.
- Contract address (CA)
- A token's unique ID. Names can be faked; the CA can't. Always check it.
- DCA
- Dollar-cost averaging: buying a fixed amount on a schedule instead of all at once.
- DYOR
- Do your own research.
- Freeze authority
- A power that lets a token's creator freeze wallets. A red flag.
- Gas / network fee
- A small fee paid to the blockchain to process your transaction. On Solana it's usually tiny.
- Honeypot
- A scam token you can buy but can't sell.
- Limit order
- An order that only fills if the price reaches the level you set.
- Liquidity
- The pool of coins available to trade against. Low liquidity means big swings and harder selling.
- Market cap
- Price multiplied by supply. A rough size of a token, not a measure of safety.
- Meme coin
- A token driven by community and culture rather than a product. Extremely high risk.
- Mint authority
- The power to create more of a token. If it's still active, the creator can water down your share.
- NFA
- Not financial advice.
- Non-custodial
- We never hold your coins or keys. You trade from your own wallet and approve every trade.
- Platform fee
- Craic Hub's fee on a swap (0% to 0.75%), shown before you sign. Lower if you hold $CRAIC. Fees paid in $CRAIC are burned.
- Price impact
- How much your own trade moves the price.
- Rug pull
- When a token's creators pull the money out and the price collapses.
- Seed phrase
- The 12 or 24 words that unlock your wallet. Never share it with anyone, ever.
- Slippage
- How much the price may move before your trade lands. Beyond that, the trade cancels.
- SOL
- Solana's own coin. You need a little to pay network fees.
- Solana
- A fast, low-cost blockchain. Craic Hub runs on it.
- Stablecoin
- A token designed to track a currency, like USDC tracking the US dollar.
- Swap
- Trading one token for another straight from your wallet.
- Take-profit
- A sell order that fills if the price rises to the level you set.
- Token
- A coin built on top of a blockchain, like $CRAIC on Solana.
- Wallet
- An app that holds the keys to your crypto, like Phantom or Solflare.
